Because Yamazaki Taneji, the founder of the Yamatane Museum of Art, had a close relationship with Kawai Gyokudo, 71 of his works are held in the museum's collection. This exhibition brings together masterpieces from the Meiji period, including his early representative work "Cormorant Fishing," to the Taisho period masterpiece "Red and White Plum Blossoms," and his later works from the Showa period. ■Yamatane Museum of Art, Assistant Curator, Takebayashi Sae: "The subtitle of this exhibition is 'Nostalgic Japanese Scenes,' and I think there are many works that will make you think, 'Ah! This place brings back memories.' And if you look closely, you'll see that there are figures depicted in most of the landscapes. Gyokudo focused on people living in harmony with nature and incorporated them into his works. I hope you will pay attention to the figures depicted as well."
