Does Sugar Water Make Flowers Last Longer?

Hi Everyone! Today’s DIY is a floral experiment. I love, love, love fresh flowers! You might be able to tell by how many vase DIY’s and makeovers I have on this channel that I often have flowers out at any given time. I think they are beautiful and make a space feel lively and happy and like a home. The only downside to fresh flowers that I can find, is that they wilt and die after a mere few weeks of joy. Insert today’s video. I came across a floral hack that I wanted to try out. Since my current bouquet is wilting and dying to the point of being pathetic, I figured there’d be no better time. If it can bring these babies back from the brink of death, it can revive anything! It’s a simple hack. Just clean the vase and add fresh water, then add two teaspoonfuls of plain granular sugar to the water. Mix or stir it until all the sugar has dissolved and trim your flower stems as you would when you first get them. Take off 1 – 2 inches and cut the stems on a diagonal. I also removed the dead leaves and buds so that the remaining flowers had a chance of reviving with the sugar water. At first (the first 15 minutes) nothing happened, but slowly after that, the stems regained a bit of strength and resistance to being pushed around. The blooms didn’t rebloom, or change colors, but the strength and vitality of the flowers came back for a bit. Not quite a scientific experiment, but this hack does seem to work to stretch the life of your flowers from their remaining day to a few extra days of blooming beauty.
