The Worst Winter in British History - 1963
Boxing Day 1962. The snow starts falling and it doesn't stop. What followed was the Big Freeze of 1963, the coldest winter Britain had seen since 1740. For over two months, the entire country was buried. The Thames froze solid. The sea turned to ice. Villages cut off for weeks. And families trying to survive in houses with one coal fire and ice forming on the inside of their windows. If you lived through the winter of 1963, you'll never forget it.
