Aggression is a symptom

Sometimes just like us dogs get into familiar discomfort. Like replaying the same worried thoughts over and over because the familiar knot of anxiety feels more normal and “controllable” than the uncertainty of simply feeling calm. Going into unfamiliar territory feels extremely aversive when you don’t know how it’s going to go, hence the extreme biting. We have to unpack and have a conversation except it’s an emotional roller coaster that sometimes we don’t afford dogs the patience while we desensitize them. She honestly doesn’t understand she’s the problem right now. Just like in the movie “The Break Up” Vince Vaughn cannot see what the issue is until disaster strikes. (yes I stole the analogy dog trainers- it’s a perfect one. ) I’m obsessed with this dog, she’s smart, she’s incredible. So many people would give up, give her away, put her to sleep but her family can see the same thing I can and I’m incredibly grateful to that. It’s a special thing when a dog is loved like she is. Thank you to them for allowing me to share the journey- it’s hard but it saves lives.
