Being the fourth instalment in the Battlefield series, it was the first Battlefield game for video game consoles, being released for the PlayStation 2 and Original Xbox in 2005, with an upgraded Xbox 360 version releasing in 2006. It was also known for containing the first ever full single-player campaign and dedicated story mode in a Battlefield game.
