File Storage Computer Breakdown and Repair 6/2026
I went out of town for a short period of time so I turned off the file storage computer as I wouldn't be using it. Unfortunately when you turn equipment off, it often breaks. Such was the case here. I'm thinking that there might have been a Windows Update that went through when I turned it off, and it didn't install successfully. A system restore and manual re-install of some updates has returned the machine to normal operation. I obtained this computer from my uncle a good number of years ago now with the explanation that it was flaky. It seemed to work fine for me, and has done so for at least around 6 years now. In more recent times however, there does seem to be something starting to be flaky about it. I think I will prepare a replacement unit to have on hand in case this one does completely fail, but I will keep it in service until that day comes. And yes, it is still running Microsoft Windows 7, and no, it's not hacked, it doesn't have a virus, nor do I expect either of those things to become the case.
