Inside Korea's Largest Illegal Slum, Guryong Village 🇰🇷
🌎 GANGNAM, SEOUL: Guryong village is an illegal shanty town built in 1988, located in the Gangnam district. In 1988, South Korea held the summer olympics, but it was also the year the government set out to eliminate past vestiges of authoritarian rule and make the government more democratic. Freedom of the press was expanded, university autonomy recognised, and restrictions on overseas travels were lifted. Before 1988, it was extremely hard for Koreans to obtain a passport! 1988 was a prosperous year, and a turning point for the country. However, it also displaced a lot of poor people from their homes. Koreans were evicted from houses in low-income areas that were demolished during the city's rapid development for the 1988 Olympic Games. They came to Guryong village as their last refuge. 📷SOCIAL MEDIA📸 🟡 https://www.patreon.com/WhereisDanexp... 🔴 Instagram: / whereisdangram 🟢 Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?... 👥 BECOME A MEMBER 👥 I have been travelling the world for the past 10 years and have been lucky enough to make life long friends who have invited me to their countries, into their homes, and kindly shown me around.
