Formerly Of The Harlettes - Maiden Voyage

This group consisted of Sharon Redd, Ula Hedwig & Charlotte Crossley. After being Bette Midler's background singers & showgirls, The Harlettes, at that pivotal time in her career that garnered her the name The Divine Miss M. The 3 then signed an album contract with Columbia in which this song appears. Enlisted was David Rubinson as producer who was already seeing a little success with 2 other girl groups, Labelle & The Pointer Sisters as well as producing every Herbie Hancock & The Headhunters albums at that time. Herbie & the crew serves as the rhythm section on this recreation of his classic tune. I collect just about every rendition of this Herbie classic there is & I must admit that this version is in my top 3. BTW, Of course Sharon Redd went on to have some success on the underground dance scene of the early 80's with her tunes she recorded on Prelude Records.
