Rouquidão que não melhora pode ser câncer
The first thing this patient noticed was her voice changing. A hoarseness that came and went, improving for a few days and then worsening again. She didn't feel a lump in her neck, she had no pain, nothing—just her voice wasn't right. When she finally saw an ENT specialist and had a laryngoscopy, the news was devastating: one of her vocal cords was PARALYZED. And when we investigated the reason, we found a large nodule in her thyroid that had invaded the vocal nerve. It was cancer. Most people don't know this, but hoarseness that doesn't go away in more than 2 weeks is an important warning sign. It could be many simple things (reflux, laryngitis, overuse of the voice)—but it could also be a tumor. And the sooner we discover it, the simpler the treatment. In this video I explain: 🔴 Why hoarseness lasting more than 2 weeks needs to be investigated 🔴 What is a laryngoscopy exam and why is it essential? 🔴 Why the vocal nerve can be affected by thyroid tumors 🔴 Why the nerve descends to the chest before returning to the larynx (and what that means) 🔴 Laryngeal cancer: the tumor that arises in the vocal fold itself (and the role of cigarettes) 🔴 Other rare causes of vocal fold paralysis (stroke, thoracic surgeries, vagus nerve tumor) 🔴 The rare case I operated on this year: schwannoma of the vagus nerve ⏱️ CHAPTERS: 00:00 - The case: the hoarseness that wouldn't go away 00:27 - What is a laryngoscopy exam? 00:55 - How the voice is produced (and what is Vocal cord paralysis) 01:20 - Why the vocal nerve descends to the chest 01:50 - The CT scan that revealed the thyroid nodule 02:16 - When hoarseness stops being reflux and becomes a suspected tumor 02:42 - How thyroid cancer invades the vocal nerve 03:06 - Why early detection changes everything 03:31 - Laryngeal cancer (and its relationship with smoking) 04:01 - When the tumor can cause a respiratory emergency 04:25 - Tracheostomy: when is it necessary 04:55 - Other causes of vocal cord paralysis (head, neck, chest) 05:22 - Stroke and vocal cord paralysis 05:47 - Ultrasound also helps investigate 06:16 - Rare case: schwannoma of the vagus nerve 06:44 - Considerations Final Notes 👨⚕️ I am Dr. Jônatas Catunda, a head and neck surgeon specializing in thyroid and cervical diseases, with a doctorate from UFC.
