AIDA Depth World Championship Limassol 2021: Day 2 - CWTB Men

Day 2 of the 27th AIDA World Championship (#AIDAwch2021). Stay tuned for updates.*** The complete schedule of events, start lists and results can be found here: https://www.aidainternational.org/Wor... -- Two years after the last AIDA World Championship in Villefranche-sur-mer, AIDA is ready to welcome the top freediving athletes to our 27th World Championship in Limassol, Cyprus from 20-30 September. This year’s depth competition will see 150 athletes from 40 countries competing to achieve new personal bests and deeper records in the following four disciplines: •Constant Weight (CWT): The freediver descends and ascends attempting to reach a targeted depth by swimming with fins/monofin and/or their arms. Propulsion aids other than fins/monofin are prohibited. •Constant No Fins (CNF): The freediver descends and ascends attempting to reach a targeted depth using only their arms and legs. Propulsion aids and/or pulling on the rope are prohibited. •Constant Weight Bifins (CWTB): The freediver descends and ascends attempting to reach a targeted depth by swimming with bifins and/or their arms. Propulsion aids other than bifins are prohibited. •Free Immersion (FIM): The freediver descends and ascends attempting to reach a targeted depth by pulling on the rope. Propulsion aids are prohibited. This will be the first world championship featuring CWTB, a discipline that was officially recognized by AIDA in 2019. Some of the athletes to keep an eye on during the event are: •Jennifer Wendland (GER): Current Women’s CTWB World Record holder with 93m and 25-time German national record holder •Alexey Molchanov (RUS): A 20-time world record holder •Marianna Gillespie (FRA): A six-time French national record holder •Fatima Korok (HUN): A 12-time Hungarian national record holder •Jihoon Jang (KOR): A 25-time Korean national record holder •Andrey Matveenko (RUS): Second in the Russian national ranking for CNF, CWT and FIM •Abdelatif Alouach (FRA): Second in the world ranking for CWTB and planning a new World Record attempt. “This is our first big international freediving event since the start of the pandemic in 2020. AIDA is looking forward to reconnecting directly with the freediving community in Cyprus and seeing how the best athletes in our sport have improved during this time away. With the help of our volunteers and the support of our new sponsors, we are anticipating a successful 27th AIDA World Championship.” Said AIDA President, Alexandru Russu. The featured sponsors at this year’s world championship are Double K, BESTDIVE, Paralenz and the Limassol Municipality. Good weather is expected during the competition with a predicted water temperature between 25°C and 28°C, thermocline below 20 meters and visibility around 30 to 35 meters.
