Vance: Trump said to use temporary truce with Iran to resupply world's oil

In Doha on Wednesday, mediators held talks with American and Iranian officials, who are inching back toward diplomacy after their militaries exchanged strikes last week. “I think they’ve come a long way. We hit them very hard last week. I think they’re fine," Trump told reporters Wednesday morning. Leaders on each side have expressed commitment to their newly signed memorandum of understanding, which initiated 60 days of additional talks toward a final deal. In an interview Tuesday, Vice President JD Vance quoted Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who said, "this is the end of the beginning." "There’s a lot more game to play," Vance said. In a candid moment, the vice president revealed guidance that Trump had given him. “I think what the president has told us to do is use this MOU to sort of refill the world’s oil economy, to refill some stocks and then to see where the hand is," Vance said. Key parts of the memorandum include: an end to military action, including in Lebanon; a commitment by the United States to remove sanctions against Iran and unfreeze Iranian funds and assets; Iran reaffirming its commitment to never procure or develop a nuclear weapon; and for Iran to cease charging tolls to vessels crossing the Strait of Hormuz for 60 days.
