Today we’re diving into a classic tune my grandpa called "Slipped in the Kitchen," but you probably know it as "Shortening Bread." This lesson is a bit of a double feature: we’ll break down the melody using a unique index-lead approach, and I’ll show you a "stupid banjo trick" that gives you a cool, clawhammer-esque sound using a palm-muting technique. We’ll work out of the G-shape (up around the 7th, 8th, and 9th frets) and walk through the forward rolls and slides that make this arrangement pop.
