🎶 Back in the early 90s, I owned a cassette tape called Sweet Tennessee Hymns by Canadian guitarist Gerald Garno. His arrangements of I’ll Fly Away were so inspiring, though I couldn’t master them all at the time. Today, I revisited that memory and tried to play this beloved hymn in the style of Chet Atkins, blending Garno’s influence with the fingerpicking tradition that shaped American guitar history. This performance is my final post for 2022 — a heartfelt tribute to both Gerald Garno and Chet Atkins, and a way to celebrate the timeless beauty of gospel and fingerstyle guitar.
