[šŸ”šŸ’”] Hydrogel Dressings: Unraveling the Mystery! Welcome to the Schematized Nursing channel! Here, we explore the universe of nursing, simplifying concepts and bringing essential knowledge to you. I'm Marcus, and today we're going to dive deep into the use of hydrogel in wound treatment. But before we begin, let's understand the basics: what is a hydrogel dressing? Hydrogel dressings are primarily composed of water, carboxymethylcellulose, and propylene glycol, each playing a specific role in promoting healing and protecting the wound. Water constitutes the majority of the hydrogel, providing hydration to the skin or tissues, creating a barrier that prevents excessive moisture loss. This is crucial in dry wounds and wounds with necrotic tissue. Carboxymethylcellulose forms a gelatinous network in the presence of water, creating a protective barrier that retains moisture and promotes the softening of necrotic tissue. Propylene glycol, representing 20% of the hydrogel, helps maintain moisture in the wound, has antimicrobial properties, and facilitates the application and removal of the dressing. Indication and Contraindication: Hydrogel dressings are indicated for wounds with moderate or low exudate, facilitating cell migration and promoting autolytic debridement. However, they are contraindicated in wounds with high exudate, intact skin, third-degree burns, and in cases of sensitivity to the product's components. Step-by-Step: Cleanse the wound with saline solution. Apply the hydrogel to the wound bed. Protect the peri-lesional skin with a barrier cream or spray. Place a secondary dressing over the wound. Change the secondary dressing every 3 days. Ready to discover the secrets of wound treatment with hydrogel?
