Firewise Community Communications & Outreach

June 23 @ 5:30 pm - 6:30 pm Firewise Community Communications & Outreach How to Keep Your Community Engaged, Informed, and Motivated Strong Firewise Communities are built on communication. Not just meetings and emails, but ongoing neighbor-to-neighbor connection that keeps wildfire preparedness visible, practical, and active throughout the year. This Zoom workshop is designed for new and emerging Firewise leaders who want to improve community outreach, grow participation, and communicate in ways people actually pay attention to. A surprisingly difficult task in the modern era, where a person can ignore five evacuation warnings but instantly react to a lost dog post. Topics include: Best practices for newsletters, email lists, and social media How to leverage WRC seasonal messaging to keep residents engaged year-round Creating simple, actionable wildfire communications Encouraging participation without overwhelming volunteers Flyers, events, workshops, and neighborhood outreach ideas Building a recognizable community voice and culture Using photos, success stories, and local examples effectively How to use AI tools to quickly customize messages, posts, and outreach materials for your own community Avoiding burnout and communication fatigue We’ll also share real-world examples from Nevada County Firewise Communities, including what has helped communities grow stronger, more connected, and more action-oriented over time. Because wildfire preparedness is not just about clearing vegetation. It is about building communities that communicate well enough to act together.
