La Palma – The Island We Had to Return To 🌿🌋✨ We rarely visit the same place twice, but La Palma is the exception. Our first trip here was quite spontaneous, just a few days during our two-week adventure through Spain. Both our visits happened after the 2021 eruption of the Cumbre Vieja volcano - one of the most powerful in La Palma’s history. During October, more than 3,000 earthquakes were detected in the southern part of the island and ash plumes rose as high as 5.5 km altitude. The eruption lasted for 85 days, from September to December, covering over 1,200 hectares in lava, destroying thousands of homes, and reshaping the island forever. Yet, La Palma remains as stunning and resilient as ever, with nature reclaiming its space and life moving forward. We had no idea that this volcanic island, with its lush forests, rugged coastlines, and endless night skies, would leave such a mark on us. This time, we came back with intention.
