Alzheimer: o cuidado, a culpa e o desafio de se manter presente | Mamilos #561
In episode #561 of Mamilos, we invite you to make some tea, pull up a chair, and open your heart to talk about a process that demands a lot of courage and vulnerability: Alzheimer's Disease. Dementia is not just accelerated aging or a natural part of life. The diagnosis rarely affects just one person. It enters the home and shifts roles, reorganizes the entire family, transforms daughters and sons into the parents of their own parents, and carries a heavy stigma that often isolates and plunges caregivers into exhaustion without them realizing it. We listen to three stories from families who are or have been going through this process, we talk about the "grief in life" that is the pain of seeing a loved one progressively change, and the immense challenge of loving and respecting this new version that emerges. But, more than talking about the disease, we talk about those who care. We reflect on the burnout of caregivers, who in the vast majority of cases are women, the vital importance of social health, the courage to ask for help, and breaking the taboo about institutionalization as a form of care. To help us understand what is possible to do in prevention, diagnosis, care, and, above all, how to keep the person present in their own life through affection, we welcome two fundamental guests: Dr. Sonia Maria Brucki, neurologist and coordinator of the Cognitive and Behavioral Neurology group at the Hospital das Clínicas of USP, and Dr. Laiss Bertola, psychologist and neuropsychologist specializing in aging and the behavioral impact of dementia. Together, they explain the difference between healthy aging and warning signs, as well as how to build our "cognitive reserve" throughout life to protect the brain. If you are going through this process, or know someone who needs this support, share this content. It's a dense, profound conversation, but full of love and possible paths. Join us for another open-hearted dialogue and don't forget to like the video, subscribe to the channel, and leave your story in the comments 💌 —- Every day is Mercado Livre day.
