START OF SEASON! TUI Boeing 737-8K5 (WV) London Stansted to Kefalonia - May 2026

Flying abroad for the 2nd time in 2026, this time not with Ryanair for a change, but with TUI flying back to Kefalonia, my 12th trip to the Ionian Island and my 4th time flying this specific flight number, TOM5754 departing Stansted at 08.00. Operated by 11 year old G-TAWV. As it was still the start of the season it was only about half full. We pushed at about 08.10 and made our way out for departure from Runway 22, but despite the lighter load we used most of the runway and a lot of engine power. We pin-balled out across the English Channel and made landfall on mainland Europe over Calais, and it was overcast until we reached the Swiss Alps where it cleared up and yet again we had a fantastic view of the snowy mountains from FL350. Shortly after passing the mountains, we climbed to FL370 to avoid turbulence, then cutting straight down the Adriatic with some fantastic views of the Italian coastline. As we crossed from the Adriatic sea to the Mediterranean sea, we got quite a few bumps and it stayed unstable until the final approach and landing which was breathtaking. As we came to Kefalonia at the very start of the season, it wasn't as bright or warm as it usually was. However, Kefalonia airport was incredibly busy as it was handling 2 more flights than usual due to some diversion to Athens the day before due to the weather. It took an hour for any of our bags to show up and a rude member of staff shouted at my dad because he had stopped walking because his hat had blown onto the active apron and someone else was retrieving it for him!
