Formschnitt bei Laubholz – der Weg zum Wertholz

Joachim is a forestry consultant at the Chamber of Agriculture and is demonstrating pruning and shaping techniques for trees today. Deciduous trees are considerably more demanding to manage. They are often not as competitive as other tree species and would be outcompeted. Furthermore, their trunks are usually not as vertically oriented as those of conifers. To obtain straight, branch-free trunks that can then be processed into high-quality wood products such as furniture, a great deal of care and the aforementioned shaping and pruning are necessary. Joachim also explains that it's not necessary to prune every tree. Some are naturally somewhat "unruly," but these can later become excellent habitat trees that promote biodiversity. When pruning trees, it's also important to maintain sufficient foliage, as this is the "powerhouse" of the trees, responsible for their growth.
