Michigan Bass Fishing in the UP... and I Let the Only Keeper Go

Michigan bass fishing in the Upper Peninsula with Ryan means one thing. I pretend to know what I’m doing, Ryan immediately doubts the lake has fish in it, and somehow we caught some fish! We headed back to our favorite lake in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula for another yearly fishing trip, and the bite started exactly how you want it to start. I missed a topwater frog bite, followed it up with a soft plastic worm on a Texas rig, and finally got a decent largemouth bass in the boat. From there, we started figuring out the pattern. Shade. Lily pads. Green pumpkin. Slow on the bottom. Nothing fancy. Just two guys in a boat trying not to get snagged, trying to catch bass, and trying to prove there are actually fish in this lake. Ryan struggled for most of the day, questioned my instructions, questioned the lake, questioned the cost of the trip, and then finally got one on the board. So technically, this was a successful fishing trip. We also kept one 15 inch bass for a little while before I decided I wasn’t in the mood to carve him up and let him go at night.
