Wonjong's tomb was built in Gokchon-ri, Yangju, After his son Injo ascended the throne in 1626, he raised his rank and was promoted from the tomb to 'Won' and named 'Hong Gyeong-won'. In 1632, it was upgraded once again and was promoted from 'Won' to 'Nung' and was called 'Jangneung'. King Injo took Gwanghaegun down from the throne and established royal authority, so in order to justify and maintain his royal authority, The tomb of his parents, who were not kings during their lifetime, was moved from Yangju to Gimpo, raising the tomb to the royal tomb. The tombs of Joseon's royal family are divided into three categories according to their status: 'Nung': The tombs of the king and queen, the emperor and the empress 'Circle': The tomb of the king's parents, birth mother, crown prince and princess, crown prince and crown prince 'Mausoleum': Royal family and side rooms, tombs of deposed kings and queens The Royal Tomb of the Joseon Dynasty is not just a cemetery, but an important cultural heritage with high historical, cultural, and artistic value.
