Labio leporino o fisura labial: Hay solución

Cleft lip or cleft lip is a congenital defect consisting of a split or separation in the upper lip. A cleft lip results from the incomplete fusion of the maxillary and nasomedial processes of the embryo and is one of the most common birth defects (accounting for approximately 15% of congenital malformations). It frequently presents with a cleft palate. Surgery to close a cleft lip is usually performed when the child is between six weeks and nine months old. Surgery may be necessary later in life if the problem significantly affects the nasal area. To explain the scope of this congenital malformation and its prognosis and treatment, we had the following present in our health section of Madrid Contigo: Beatriz González Meli, Plastic Surgery Coordinator at the Niño Jesús Children's Hospital; María José Cimadevilla, Dentist at the Cimadevilla Clinic; and Marina Aturiac, mother of a child with a cleft lip.
