How Scarcity Mindset and Overachiever Mindset Helped Me Reach Financial Independence

I've spent a lot of time on this channel talking about the dangers of scarcity mindset. And I meant every word. But here's the part of my story I haven't been fully honest about: the same mindset I warn people against? It was part of how I got here. This video is me telling the real version — not the cleaned-up one. I grew up in an immigrant household where money was never discussed at the dinner table. It was whispered behind closed doors. I absorbed the worry, the vigilance, the low-level fear of losing what little we had — before I ever had words for any of it. That fear didn't paralyze me. It activated me. Combined with an overachiever mindset that I carried from childhood through 13 years of corporate — it created something very specific: high income, low lifestyle inflation, consistent investing, and an almost irrational commitment to not stopping. That combination is what built financial independence. Not luck. Not a single great investment. That math. But. It also cost me something I'm still trying to name. And now that I've left corporate by choice — now that the structure is gone — I'm sitting with a question I didn't expect to have to answer on the other side of FI: 'Who am I without the next goal?'
