In this documentary from 1981 Tom Philpott details an alleged trafficking ring involving political elites across the South. In cities like Austin, Houston, Dallas, and New Orleans. It originally aired as part of the Alternative Views series. Following the documentary's release, Philpott faced severe threats and retaliation. On October 27, 1981 (noted as 1982 in some accounts), he was shot twice in the shoulder during a home invasion. He claimed the attack was an attempt to discredit his research by making it appear as a su!cide, a narrative Austin police initially favored, leading to the investigation being dropped. Tom Philpott died on October 9, 1991, at the age of 49.
