La Casa Plus Ultra, Gibraleón

Route from San Bartolomé de la Torre to the Damas villa in Gibraleón. This villa is an icon of modern architecture, designed by the architect José María Pérez Carasa. The Plus Ultra villa, or Damas villa, named after its owner, Arturo López Damas, is part of the General Catalogue of Andalusian Historical Heritage. However, it has been abandoned since the 1970s. In fact, its stately rooms are often the scene of paranormal phenomena. The property is located on a rural estate. Experts say that its great contribution lies in its "novel and captivating" image, which harks back to the principles of German Expressionist architecture of the early 1920s, and more specifically to the work of Erich Mendelsohn. The name Plus Ultra, which flanked its roadside entrance on two columns, has since disappeared. The house was inhabited by the López-Damas family until the 1970s. It was then sold to the Aguado family, from Huelva, who renovated it and made it habitable again.
