You don't NEED to shave your dog's coat down to keep him cool. There is a better way to do this. When you shave a coat off the skin is HOTTER than it would be without fur. This video shows what happens to a double dog coat when it is shaved down regularly. If you choose to shave your dog down for whatever reason, THIS IS WHAT WILL HAPPEN TO IT. For those of you who are having trouble understanding the "repair" part of it, yes the fur is DEAD - it is hair - but if you leave it for YEARS without shaving it, every piece of dead hair will re-grow so it can "repair" the coat.
