Instructions to prevent the prosthesis from dislocating, that is, from coming out of place, to avoid the risk of falls and thrombosis. Main instructions for the patient to avoid dislocation: Do not bend the hip above 90º Do not adduct the hip or perform large rotations How does this apply in practice? Do not sit in low places such as a soft sofa or a very low chair. Always try to sit in higher chairs, with a firmer seat and armrests. It is important for the patient to keep their torso slightly inclined backward and the operated leg more extended. Keep the knee lower than the hip. Always use the toilet seat riser when using the bathroom. It is important to use a shower chair in the first few weeks. Use grab bars and non-slip mats to prevent falls. Because during a shower, blood pressure can drop, and the patient may experience dizziness and fall. That's why it's important to use a shower chair. Even to avoid pain, being seated prevents sudden movements. Avoid bending the torso to pick something up, and avoid deep squats. Avoid wearing shoes that require tying laces. Sleep with your legs open. Never cross your legs, and avoid this adduction movement. You can use a pillow/cushion. Or an abductor triangle for more extreme cases. Sometimes the patient's leg is rotated outwards; a tip to avoid this is to use a roll/towel/sheet to keep the leg as neutral as possible. Do not cross your legs in any way. Avoid internal and external rotations. These guidelines are essential in the immediate postoperative period, which is when the risk of dislocation is highest. Dislocation is a serious complication that sometimes requires replacing the prosthesis, so proper care is very important.
