Could the Northeast of Brazil develop its own great dairy breed, just as the Girolando breed revolutionized dairy farming in Brazil? In this video, we conduct a genetic selection exercise and imagine a goat breed specifically designed for the semi-arid region of Brazil. The proposal combines three breeds with very different characteristics: 🐐 Murciano-Granadina: milk production, feed efficiency, and high solids content. 🐐 Anglo-Nubian: size, heat adaptation, and versatility. 🐐 Moxotó: extreme hardiness and drought resistance. But would this combination really work? How much milk could this goat produce? What would be the advantages, the challenges, and how long would it take to transform this crossbreed into a real breed? Throughout the video, we discuss how a new breed is born, why the most productive animal is not always the most profitable, and whether the future of goat farming in the Northeast might lie in selecting animals adapted to the realities of the Caatinga biome.
