#ElectronicPanel Congresswoman Rogéria Santos (Republicanos-BA) advocated for the creation by law of a national policy for the reception and reintegration of deported and repatriated Brazilians. The parliamentarian reported on a bill that creates the Reintegra Brasil Policy (PL 96/25), approved by the Social Security, Assistance, Childhood, Adolescence and Family Committee of the Chamber of Deputies. Data from the Federal Police and the Ministry of Human Rights and Citizenship indicate that, in 2025, the number of Brazilians deported from the United States reached 3,294, an increase of almost 100% compared to 2024, when 1,648 were forced to leave American soil and return to Brazil. In an interview with Painel Eletrônico this Friday (26), Rogéria Santos stated that many Brazilians return without jobs, without assets and, in some cases, without valid documents. She said that the proposed Reintegration Brazil Policy foresees support on different fronts, especially in situations of social and economic vulnerability. “We cannot forget that this Brazilian who returns in this condition needs to be treated in a special way. Note that they may have been out of the Brazilian labor market for many years or some period. They have no idea how that market is functioning at that moment. So, I cannot leave this person behind in terms of public policy,” said the rapporteur. The approved proposal includes measures such as the establishment of shelters in border areas, priority access to social programs, the offer of credit lines, and support in locating relatives in Brazil. Since 2025, the federal government has had a program to support repatriated and deported individuals, the Aqui é Brasil Program. According to Rogéria Santos, this program could be incorporated into the policy if it becomes law. “When a person returns to Brazil, they can't instantly sort out their life. They often come back with trauma, very serious trauma; so they will need psychosocial care, support, and we need to institutionalize this not only as a government policy, but as a state policy, and this project has that potential and, more than that, it expands everything that the program already does masterfully,” the congresswoman argued. The project will still go through the Finance and Taxation Committee and the Constitution and Justice Committee before going to the Senate.
