BrahMos Range To Increase To 1500 KM: India's Long-Term Plan Against China Becomes Clear The BrahMos Missile is set to become even more dangerous. According to reports citing comments from the BrahMos Aerospace leadership, India is planning to increase the range of the BrahMos Missile to 1500 KM. The Supersonic Cruise Missile originally entered service with a range of around 290 KM, which was later increased to 450 KM. Today, an 800 KM range BrahMos Missile is already undergoing testing, while the next goal is a 1500 KM range version. The most interesting part is not just the increase in range, but the fact that India is now developing three different Cruise Missile categories with roughly the same 1500 KM range. Alongside the BrahMos Missile, India is testing the LRLACM subsonic Cruise Missile and is also developing the ET-LDHCM hypersonic Cruise Missile. When three different missile classes are being developed around the same range requirement, it suggests a long-term strategic plan rather than isolated projects. The requirement makes sense when viewed through the lens of India China security planning. During Operation Sindoor, India demonstrated the ability to strike targets across Pakistan using weapons such as BrahMos, SCALP, and other long-range missiles. Military officials later emphasized that India had shown it could hit critical targets anywhere inside Pakistan. In simple terms, existing missile ranges are already sufficient for most Pakistan-related scenarios. The bigger challenge is China. A conflict along the India China border would not be decided only by frontline fighting. Airbases, ammunition depots, fuel storage facilities, logistics hubs, missile bases, and command infrastructure deep inside Chinese territory would also play a critical role. While current missiles can threaten infrastructure near the border, longer-range Cruise Missile systems provide the ability to target deeper logistics and supply networks that sustain military operations. This is where the 1500 KM BrahMos Missile becomes important. Combined with LRLACM and ET-LDHCM, India would possess three different strike options for different target categories. Subsonic Cruise Missile systems such as LRLACM can be used in larger numbers against a wide range of targets. The BrahMos Supersonic Cruise Missile provides faster response times against more valuable targets, while hypersonic missiles such as ET-LDHCM are intended for highly protected, time-sensitive, or strategic targets. Speed creates another important advantage. A subsonic Cruise Missile traveling at roughly Mach 0.7 could take more than 100 minutes to reach a target 1500 KM away. A BrahMos Missile traveling at around Mach 2.8 could reach the same target in about 26 minutes. A hypersonic missile traveling at around Mach 8 could potentially cover the distance in less than 10 minutes. Viewed together, the expansion of the BrahMos Missile to 1500 KM, the development of LRLACM, and progress on ET-LDHCM indicate a broader strategy.
