A Simple Proa Rudder - Waimea Proa E5
One of the first thing you learn about proas is that it's hard to design a rudder for them. Well, here is my design. It's inspired by the way a steering oar is used on the marshall island (and others). An oar is tied to a line, the other end attached amidships. The oar is then held to the lee side of the main hull. In my version, I've got another line at the top and a cleat to hold it in place, and have a tiller and extention on the oar so that it may operated single handed from the platform - while trimming the sheet and providing righting moment!
