Laos is known as the most heavily bombed country per capita in human history. Over the course of 3 days, I travelled through this fascinating country almost entirely by boat along the Mekong River. What started on a luxury 5-star cruise quickly turned into a nightmare aboard a crowded 1-star boat that was taking on water. From crossing the border from Thailand, to spending nights in remote riverside towns, exploring local life and travelling deep into the heart of Laos, this journey was nothing like I expected.
