I visited Ivan Mykolayovych Markovych, a resident of the village of Kolochava, a musician, entrepreneur and activist. He was born in Kosy Verkhov, in a hamlet that was once prosperous: there was even an elementary school here. Ivan Mykolayovych comes from a musical family: his parents were musicians, his brothers and sons became musicians. He shared incredible stories: how his father walked three times for two hours to his mother before getting married for the fourth time; how he himself studied, got an education and worked in a production inter-school complex; how he played at weddings with his brothers and mastered all the Transcarpathian folk instruments. And most importantly, he revealed his culinary secrets to us: the recipe for the famous riplyanka (mamalagy with potatoes) and friga (brynza with cracklings). We tasted all this, talked about life and even played “Nese Galya vodu” on the accordion.
