Our guest is Mariano, 49, a recovering sex addict. Through an honest, generous, and courageous conversation, Mariano shares a story that is difficult to tell and even more difficult to hear, precisely for that reason essential. The loss of his mother at a very young age marked the beginning of a silent journey in search of emotional relief. At age 8, Mariano discovered pleasure as a way to soothe the emptiness and unease. Later, contact with pornography triggered a compulsion that continued to grow in intensity and frequency for decades. Sex became a strategy for managing emotions, guilt, and pain… but also the source of ever-increasing suffering. He consumed sex to feel good or to stop feeling bad. And this consumption, far from providing relief, fueled a cycle of guilt, frustration, and shame that drove him to consume even more. A cycle he couldn't break free from until well into quarantine, when he sought help and joined a Sex Addicts Anonymous group. This episode isn't meant to provoke, but to understand. It doesn't judge, but rather humanizes. Mariano puts words to an addiction that's difficult to explain and often misunderstood, showing how stigma can be as isolating as the addiction itself. Furthermore, he leaves us with an essential lesson for prevention and recovery: sometimes getting better means facing fear. This interview terrified him, and yet he chose to do it.
