Twilight Princess Any% No D-Pad (part 1)

/ minimini352   Part 2:    • Twilight Princess Any% No D-Pad (part 2)   This run beats Twilight Princess without pressing any of the four D-Pad buttons a single time. The functions of the D-Pad are opening and closing the item wheel to equip items, and opening and closing the map. The B button can close both the item wheel and map, so no D-Pad makes no difference there. Opening the map is only used for warping, which can also be done by calling Midna, so this makes little difference, though it does mean the run requires beating both Snowpeak Ruins and Temple of Time, as the trick normally used to skip these dungeons requires map warping. Opening the item wheel is the main issue for the run. There is one place in the game where the item wheel is opened automatically, which is when Iza gives you a temporary bomb bag, and so this must be used for every equip in the run. However, if you try to leave the room after using this to equip items, Iza's text at the door will revert the equips to what they were previously. To get past this, I do Item Wheel Delay by chaining frame perfect pauses, and then mashing A and B at the door. It turns out I was very bag at this trick, which had to be done 11 times, which is mostly why the run took so long. Note that at various points throughout the run I fail the IWD in a way that causes the game to crash, and to load the game again I have to use the D-Pad to navigate some menus. But whenever I am actually in-game I don't use the D-Pad.
