Spain and Morocco have had military confrontations since 1859, in the African War or Spanish-Moroccan War that ended in 1860 with a Spanish victory. They later faced each other in the Ifni War, which was an undeclared war between Spain and France against Morocco, between 1957 and 1958 that was resolved with the Cintra Agreement. Then in 2002, Moroccan marines occupied Parsley Island (an uninhabited island disputed between Spain and Morocco) and were quickly expelled by Spanish forces.
