The mega-yacht is the external symbol of ultimate wealth. Emires of the Gulf, Russian oligarchs and multi-millionaires all compete to own the most beautiful, biggest, and most expensive in the world. The Azzam of the Emir of Abu Dhabi holds all the records: 180 meters long, six decks, a 500 sqm salon, an infinity pool, and a helipad with an estimated cost of 600 million dollars. Just behind it is Roman Abrahmovich's Eclipse, measuring 164 meters. And now there are even more (35 megayachts over 100 meters). These floating palaces, the size of cruise ships, have become the favorite toy of the ultra-rich. Among them, the race for gigantism and excess has begun. Specialized shipyards (in the Netherlands and Germany) are overwhelmed with orders. Designed by the greatest designers on the planet, some of these yachts have basketball courts, clinics, movie theaters, discos, old-style fireplaces, spas (with saunas, hammams, jacuzzis, massage rooms and hairdressers), and even a pocket submarine to explore the seabed. The luxury navigation industry consists of thousands of jobs (including crews of at least fifty people per boat) and a turnover of 25 billion euros per year. Mega-yacht owners are also, above all, an ultra-closed club with its rituals and secrets. Exceptionally, several multimillionaires opened their doors to us and agreed to take us aboard their floating palaces for historic cruises. We also followed, on a daily basis, the new professions (naval architects, decorators, bloggers) that revolve around this surprising universe. And our cameras were able to film, especially at the Dubai International Yacht Show, the behind-the-scenes of certain transactions between sellers and buyers. From the UAE to Miami, passing through Greenland and the Principality of Monaco, an investigation into the new passion of the multimillionaires.
