Frustrated and Given Up on Bow Drill??? Try a 2x4 and Cheat Bearing Block

I know there are lots of frustrated people who have tried and tried to make Bow Drill Friction Fire work. They get all kinds of smoke, or the string starts slipping exactly at the wrong time, that spindle keeps popping out, etc. But, before you give up on Bow Drill, try using a Fir or "White Wood" 2x4 or 2x2 and a cheat bearing block. I promise you, after you get that first ember you will start being able to make them with regularity and ease. When most people start learning this technique, they have visions of being able to find dead standing wood, natural bearing blocks, roots for cordage, etc. But, I think, the best way one can advance to that level is to start off with the most ideal materials you can find and use as many cheats as you need, to accomplish that first ember.
