Ini yang Terjadi di Istana Bogor Saat Bung Karno Bertemu 3 Jenderal TNI AD
This is What Happened at the Bogor Palace When Sukarno Met with Three Indonesian Army Generals On March 11, 1966, mid-afternoon, three army generals met with Sukarno. They were Major General Basuki Rachmat, Brigadier General M. Jusuf, and Amir Machmud. Quoting the book, "Amir Machmud, Witness to Supersemar Who Became a Minister for President Soeharto," compiled by the Tempo Data and Analysis Center, Brigadier General Basuki Rachmat was none other than the Minister of Veterans Affairs. Meanwhile, M. Jusuf, another army general, was serving as Minister of Light Industry at the time. Finally, Brigadier General Amirmachmud was serving as Commander of the Jakarta Military Command. The three came to meet with Sukarno after an incident at a cabinet meeting that was canceled midway due to the presence of unidentified RPKAD troops surrounding the State Palace, mingling with the demonstrators. The presence of these unidentified RPKAD troops prompted Sukarno to abruptly end the meeting and then hastily fly to Bogor Palace by helicopter. The Tempo Data and Analysis Center, in its book, "Amir Machmud, Witness to Supersemar Who Became a Minister for President Soeharto," notes that at around 2 p.m., the three army generals arrived at Bogor Palace. Upon arrival, the three generals immediately rushed to the guard pavilion. There, they were greeted by Brigadier General Sabur, Commander Cakrabirawa. Upon meeting Sabur, Basuki Rachmat immediately explained the purpose of his visit. "Bur, we came to see you," Basuki Rachmat said to Sabur. Sabur replied that Bung Karno was currently resting in his room. Hearing Sabur's answer, Basuki Rachmat repeated that he and his two colleagues would wait for Bung Karno. "Then, we'll wait," Basuki Rahmat said after receiving Sabur's explanation. Sabur then led the three Army generals to the Palace guest room. Bung Karno then appeared. The first Indonesian president came to meet his three guests. After the three generals sat before him, Bung Karno, with a grim expression on his face, opened the conversation. He spoke in an emotional tone, asking the three generals their purpose. "What are you doing here?" Bung Karno asked in a loud, angry voice. Basuki Rahmat then answered. In a slow, steady voice, the former Brawijaya Military Commander explained his purpose. His visit to meet Bung Karno. "We specifically came to see you to show that we haven't abandoned you. We don't want you to feel abandoned by ABRI, by the Army. We regret the events that occurred this morning. But we hope that the President won't be affected by them," Basuki Rahmat said. Hearing this, Bung Karno spoke angrily again. "What? You're telling me not to be affected? I shouldn't be anxious? You're saying the Army hasn't abandoned me? You know the Army participated in the demonstration. They helped bring me down. You infiltrated RPKAD and Kostrad members among the youth and students. What was the purpose if not to attack me?" Bung Karno's face turned red, holding back his emotions. Then Bung Karno rebuked Amir Machmud. Bung Karno said Amir Machmud always declared Jakarta safe. But the reality was different, with rogue troops infiltrating the demonstrators. Basuki Rachmat and Jusuf were also reprimanded. "You didn't do anything either," Bung Karno said, accusing the three generals of pretending and actually wanting to bring him down. Hearing Bung Karno's anger and accusations, Basuki Rachmat was the first to respond. He denied that the Army had abandoned Bung Karno, let alone wanted to overthrow him. The Army had no intention of doing so. "That's not true, sir. There was no intention of abandoning you, sir. Let alone overthrowing you." "If there were such intentions, of course we wouldn't have come here," said Basuki Rachmat. Bung Karno fell silent upon hearing Amir Machmud's words. After that, Bung Karno asked what solution was needed to resolve the current crisis. This time it was General Jusuf who spoke up. He suggested that Bung Karno order General Suharto to resolve the situation. Amir Machmud confirmed M Jusuf's suggestion. "Yes, sir. Earlier, Pak Harto also said that he could resolve the situation if the President gave him confidence," Amir Machmud said. Hearing this, Bung Karno immediately interjected. "Trust? What more confidence should I give him? I have appointed General Suharto as Commander in Chief for the Restoration of Security and Order. But look, things are still unsafe and disorderly." Then Amir Machmud spoke. "Perhaps more confidence is needed, sir." With a confused expression, Bung Karno replied. "What kind of confidence? What do you mean?" "Some kind of warrant, for example," Amir Machmud replied quickly.
