A ride with narrow gauge vintage trams at Seaton Tramway on the former LSWR Seaton branch line route

Following the recent visit to the Crich Tramway Village, home to the National Tramway Museum in Derbyshire    • Crich National Tramway Museum | Riding his...   today we took a trip to the Seaton Tramway for the first time in a good few years! It’s Seaton Tramway’s 56th Anniversary this summer as it approaches its birthday on 28th August. The Tramway operates narrow gauge (2'9") heritage trams over 3 miles along the beautiful Axe Valley in East Devon, England. Seaton Tramway follows the alignment of the former Seaton Branch Line, a standard gauge LSWR railway that originally connected Seaton to the main London and South Western Railway at Seaton Junction, and on the eve of the anniversary of the end of Southern Steam we enjoyed a ride along this delightful line, spent some time in Sunny Seaton and returned to Colyton. The redevelopment of the station terminus at Seaton is quite striking upon arrival, gone is the old red conservatory style building that stood here for many years, in favour of a much more grand modernised terminus, with interactive displays, waiting areas and multiple departure lanes. The trams are purpose built by the company with designs based on some of the heritage trams that served British towns and cities in the first half of the last century. Operating on overhead electric lines, the line transports visitors between the historic town of Colyton, the village of Colyford, and the coastal resort of Seaton. Also of interest, Lawrence of Arabia famously resided in rural Dorset at his retreat, Clouds Hill. Prior to his fatal motorcycle crash in 1935, he was a regular customer at a historical filling station in the Royal Borough of Colyford, and there are local historical ties to his travels through East Devon, so these famous pumps are featured during our stop off at Colyford. | 08.07.2026 I hope you enjoy this video and thank you for watching!
