Message on Matthew 6:21-23 recorded at the City Church Beloved brothers and sisters, the Word of God tells us in Matthew 6:21: "For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also."* This is a profound and powerful truth. Jesus is teaching us that our focus reveals what we truly value. Where you place your attention, your time, your effort—there is your treasure. And where your treasure is... there is your heart. In verse 22, He continues: "The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are healthy, your whole body will be full of light." What does this mean? It means that what you allow into your vision, where you focus, illuminates or darkens your entire life. If you focus on good, pure, eternal things, then the light of God will shine throughout your being. But if your eyes are turned toward what is evil, toward earthly treasures, toward covetousness and vanity, verse 23 warns us: "But if your eyes are evil, your whole body will be full of darkness." Church, this is serious. Jesus is talking about FOCUS. The power of focus lies in aligning our vision with the purposes of the Kingdom of God. If we focus on eternal things, on the Word, on prayer, on the presence of the Lord, our lives will be full of light! But if we let our focus wander, we risk living in spiritual darkness.
