It is a 3 track crossing, with all tracks except the western track being bi-directional. The crossing's proximity to Dandenong Station means that it is wired up to activate when a train that is proceeding past Dandenong Station arrives there, meaning that it is not unusual for the crossing to be down for more than 2-3 minutes while trains sit idle at Dandenong Station. As of publishing, this crossing has been listed as one of the level crossings to be removed by the Level Crossing Removal Project (LXRP). This crossing will be removed by closing it off, and constructing a new nearby underpass adjacent to the Dandenong Creek. It will connect with Princes Highway/Lonsdale St at the eastern portal, and Cheltenham Rd at the western portal. The crossing is planned to be closed off by late 2025, and the underpass is planned to be completed by 2028.
