HOW TO STRETCH CANVAS for PAINTING
How to Stretch a Canvas for Painting. I have quite a few large canvases that I needed to stretch and prepare ready for painting. These will be used for my Summer exhibition of paintings at The Royal Cornwall Museum. I used metre long stretcher bars with added cross pieces to give it more strength. The canvas was 10 metre roll of Cotton Duck 15oz. The tools used were : a wooden mallet, canvas pliers and a heavy duty staple gun with 8mm staples. I hope this helps with your own canvas stretching. It can really save you money, especially at larger sizes. Look out for the next video in the series where I will show you how to size the canvas in the traditional way (no acrylic) and then prime it ready for painting in oil paints.
