This chassis, known as the Tipo 590A, was lighter and stronger than the road-legal 275 GTB. Ferrari's Maranello racing department built a total of twelve 275 GTB/C Berlinettas, each with the relatively voluptuous styling typical of Pinin Farina's designs of the period, as well as bodywork by Scaglietti. The GTB/Cs were as capable on the street as they were on the track - as spirited as any thoroughbred racing car of the day, yet thoroughly user-friendly on the open road. Although the 275 GTB/C externally resembled the road-legal 275 GTB, no body parts were the same and the chassis had few components in common. The wheel arches are flared to make room for the racing tires, making the GTB/C's body wider than that of the standard production GTB, especially at the rear where the fenders flare out behind the doors. The aluminum alloy body is paper thin and made of 0.7 mm thick aluminum sheet, which is only half the thickness of the GTB. To further reduce weight, the windows and rear window were made of Plexiglas instead of glass. Eight of the twelve GTB/Cs produced are left-hand drive, and two of them are equipped with alloy wheels. To integrate the gearbox into the rear axle, Ferrari used a needle bearing gearbox for the first time. No fans - a natural air intake along with a water cooler mounted behind the massive oil cooler keeps you cool even over long distances. Dry sump lubrication allows the engine to sit lower and further forward for better weight distribution. It is powered by a 3.3-liter V-12 engine with 250 LM valves, special pistons and three Weber 40 DF13 carburetors, generating 280 HP at 7,600 rpm. Many engine parts are cast from electron, a lightweight magnesium alloy. The interior of the 275 GTB/C is equipped with rear stiffeners and the rear section is reinforced to prevent flexing in the event of an impact. With impressive racing records over the decades, the 275 GTB/C is remembered as one of Ferrari's last truly all-round racing cars. #ferrari #Ferrari275GTB/C #CMC
