The Town That Fell Into the Sea - A Visit to Bayocean, Oregon
On the Oregon Coast, near the city of Tillamook, famous for its cheese, there is a peninsula where a town once stood that had plans to become the Atlantic City of the west. Instead, Bayocean lies under the sand and sea, having disappeared as if it were never there. The town started in 1906 with a dream to have the premiere resort destination on the west coast, with major money being poured in and major construction projects taking place. The town featured four miles of paved roads, a hotel, a thousand seat theater, a dance hall, a massive indoor swimming pool, its own railroad, and electricity everywhere. Within 20 years, bad decisions brought the fury of the sea upon the town. The town's last building went into the sea in 1971. In this video we head to the Bayocean Peninsula, talk about the history of the Tillamook Bay, and walk around where the town of Bayocean once stood. ○ Gear we use: https://www.amazon.com/shop/sidetrack... ►Please subscribe for weekly updates showcasing some of our adventures: / @sidetrackadventures ►Also please follow Sidetrack Adventures on Instagram: / sidetrackadventures ►Music in this video is from Epidemic Sounds; use our link for a 60 day free trial: https://share.epidemicsound.com/v927fj
