The legendary commercial that sparked a social phenomenon is back, perfectly recreated for the Reiwa era! The tune "Polynkey, Polynkey, the Secret of the Triangle" resonates once again! It'll warm your heart as you reminisce about your childhood and adolescence! ~A nostalgic, retro Heisei commercial~ "Polynkey's 35th Anniversary Secret" will air nationwide starting July 12, 2025! Polynkey, the long-selling snack, celebrates its 35th anniversary this year. To mark this milestone, the original TV commercial, "Polynkey's Secret," which aired in 1990 and became a hot topic, is being revived in the Reiwa era, looking just like it did back then. The new TV commercial, "Polynkey's 35th Anniversary Secret," is a "complete remake" that faithfully recreates the original visuals and movements. The characters, the "Three Polynkeys," return to the big screen with their catchy, familiar melody. This beloved commercial has been created to appeal to both older generations who already enjoy it, and younger generations seeing it for the first time. In order to "perfectly recreate" the characters and story of the TV commercial that aired 35 years ago, we sought out and sought out as many staff members who worked on previous productions, including cinematographers and art directors, as possible to enlist their cooperation. The "Sleepo Rinkies" Jean, Paul, and Belle, who appear in this work, were created by the same puppeteer who worked on the "Sleepo Rinkies" in the previous TV commercial. Since the actual puppets used in the filming 35 years ago no longer exist, some staff members who were involved in the commercial's production previously commented that "it felt like they were a little bigger before," but the puppeteer who actually created them confidently stated, "They're the same size (laughs)," and the green light was given for filming. The new TV commercial was filmed using stop-motion photography, in which the "Sleepo Rinkies" puppets were hung from a string, just like in the TV commercial from 35 years ago, and still images were taken frame by frame as they were moved slightly. While stop-motion animation like this can be done with much less time and effort using today's digital technology, this film's theme is "perfect reproduction," and in order to emphasize the atmosphere that emanates from the footage, they chose to ignore operational efficiency and go for old-fashioned filming. The person in charge of adjusting the puppets was master stop-motion animator Hirokazu Minegishi. Minegishi was the staff member who operated the "Three Po Linkies" in the fourth TV commercial, which aired approximately 30 years ago, and he demonstrated his meticulous craftsmanship as he slowly recalled memories from over 30 years ago. This TV commercial is a faithful reproduction of the original commercial that aired in 1990. With its catchy music, pop and laid-back characters, puppet animation, and 4:3 screen ratio, it is the very definition of "Heisei retro." The original atmosphere of the commercial resonates "fresh" with the current generation and "nostalgic" with older viewers. In addition, to celebrate its 35th anniversary, we want to raise awareness of "Polynkey" and create opportunities for more people to enjoy the "Secret of the Triangle."
