Officials have warned that the river is likely to cross the danger level at Akhuapada, putting nearby areas in Jajpur and Bhadrak districts at risk of flooding. The Water Resources Department has also warned of another spell of heavy rain after July 11, while above-normal monsoon rainfall could worsen the situation by the end of July. Meanwhile, water levels are also rising in the Mahanadi basin, and a decision on opening the gates of the Hirakud Dam is expected after July 8.
