Reaching ISO G0.4 Balancing Accuracy with a DIY Balancer, Turbine Project part 4
Balancing a high-speed turbine rotor to ISO standards is far more difficult than it looks. In this video (Part 4 of my RC turbine project), I redesign my DIY balancing machine to reach ISO 21940 G0.4 quality, equivalent to correcting an imbalance smaller than a 1 mm ball of sticky tack. Starting from the limitations of my previous design, I rebuild the rotor assembly, improve the mechanical setup, upgrade the sensor system, and implement advanced signal processing techniques on an ESP32. 🔧 What you’ll see in this video: • Why my previous balancer was not ISO compliant • Understanding ISO 21940 G0.4 requirements • Full rotor assembly with shaft tunnel and ceramic bearings • DIY hybrid ceramic bearing construction • Mechanical redesign of the balancing machine • BMI160 accelerometer vs ADXL335 • ESP32 signal processing: filtering and lock-in detection • Test mass balancing method • Achieving ISO-level imbalance in only two iterations 📂 Software & Files: • ESP32 / Arduino code: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1-5xk... • Excel balancing tool: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1p9A8... • 3D printed parts: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Me_u... 📌 Previous video (Part 3): DIY Turbine Rotor Balancing 📌 Next video (Part 5): Dual-plane balancing and further improvements If you enjoy CNC machining, turbine engineering, sensors, and precision measurement systems, consider subscribing.
