CA-60 East, Part One - The Pomona Freeway. I-5 to SR 57, Exits 1 to 25.

Please help us reach that goal! Today we cover California State Route 60, in this part along the Pomona Freeway. SR 60 travels from the southern half of the East LA Interchange where it branches off the Santa Monica Freeway (I-10), to Beaumont where it rejoins I-10. If the freeway was upgrade to Interstate standards, California could make it into a bypass for I-10, however the road maintains it's heritage with the numeral 60. The number 60 dates back to 1926, when the first US highways were designated. US 60 came into California roughly along the modern I-10 corridor along with US 70, and US 99 joined the party a couple miles down the road. In Beaumont, US 60 separated from US 70 and 99 along modern SR 60. The road then went north in Pomona concurrent with modern SR 71 to rejoin the 70 and 99 on the San Bernardino Freeway. A common misconception is that US 60 ran into East LA independently along SR 60's current route, however this is not the case. The Pomona Freeway west of SR 71 was not completed until after US 60 was decommissioned west of Beaumont. This means that the road we travel in this video was never US 60 and has always been an extension of SR 60. Thanks for watching!
