Comments that reply to someone else's comment may be misunderstood and will generally not be approved. Masuda reads comments, but is busy and unable to answer questions. Comments that could potentially harm yourself or others will not be approved. Replying to other people is also prohibited. I do allow some empathetic and helpful comments. Since I'm making these decisions in a short space of time, there may be some comments that make you wonder, "Why is this not allowed?" This is often my own mistake. Thank you for your understanding. -- [Psychiatrist/Supervising Physician's Explanation] "Mothers Who Insist They Don't Have Developmental Disabilities" 00:00 OP 02:39 Why Do They Resist Change? 07:47 It's Hard to Reach Out to People with Developmental Disabilities 10:25 Are Everyone with Developmental Disabilities? 13:38 Single-Mind Approach Doesn't Work Today's topic is "Women with Developmental Disabilities and Motherhood." This video is especially aimed at those who have difficulty accepting their developmental disabilities, those who think, "I don't have a developmental disability," or those who think, "I care about others," or "I'm more sensitive than others." I'll explain what that means. Especially when I'm struggling myself and think, "But my mother is the same," and I seek advice or tell her, I'm often met with resistance. Even if I say, "I might have a developmental disorder," the mother will say, "You don't have that," or if I say, "But it's like this," the mother will reply, "No, no, it's not like that. You're just being spoiled," these are mothers who are unaware of their condition. This is a common occurrence. In the past, when I was working in clinical practice, a lot of mothers would come in saying, "I think I might be depressed." They would come in thinking they might be depressed, but in reality, I would struggle to explain to them because I thought they probably had a developmental disorder. I would often have to explain to them that what they needed right now wasn't antidepressants, but Strattera, Concerta, or Intuniv to reduce mistakes and calm impulsivity. When I did that, they would usually lose their temper at some point. They would get angry and give me a rating of 1, and I struggled with that. It's difficult to know when to say it. So, Masuda, you might think that you shouldn't say that on the first meeting, but rather after you've built a relationship of trust, but that's not the case. Whether it's the first meeting or after you've built a relationship of trust, if you unconsciously say something to someone with developmental disorder tendencies that would fundamentally change their perception, you're likely to be met with resistance. This is quite difficult, and it can't be addressed with a so-called classical psychiatric or classical psychological understanding. I'd like to talk a little about that. Today, I'd like to focus on the resistance of people with developmental disorders. ■Why Do They Resist Change? People come to psychiatrists to cure illnesses, right? I'd like to talk about why they resist change, even though they come to cure illnesses. There are problems with my current subjective world. If I continue to see this the way I want to see it, I won't be able to solve the problem. When thinking about how to turn around a company's performance or help a weak soccer or baseball team win more games, if you just think, "I think this, but I think they should practice like this," you'll never get stronger. Based on objective data, you need to fix your weakest points or develop your strengths. You need to think strategically like this, and look at the world from a more objective perspective, rather than just what you want to see. This is true for everything. It's the same in the world of science, where if you just collect your favorite experimental data and write a paper, it won't work. It's not good to have too much dummy information, and say that your experiments were bad, and stick to the theory and disbelieve the experimental data. It's very important to look at things objectively, rather than subjectively. This applies not only to mental health issues, but to any problem. Of course, there may be other ways of doing things, but in today's world, this is the absolute gold standard. Look at it objectively. After considering objectively, there are several possible options. Choose the most rational option among them. Even when you look at it objectively, it's not rational to th...
